I started building and flying R/C planes in 1966
with a pulse-rudder-only control, then advanced to a three-channel galloping ghost system when they came out. In the late 70’s I got my first 4-channel radio system but never flew with ailerons until I got back into the hobby in 2003.  I am also a Private Pilot and purchased a 1956 Piper Tri-Pacer in 1988. At that time my R/C hobby took a lay-off for a few years. I still have the tri-pacer but I’m happy to report that I’m retired and now have time for both!

BUILDING:
The Sig LT-40
By: David Kruger

This kit is laser cut and they use very high quality light ply and balsa. The fuselage uses a locking method and is self aligning. It is all put together and held with rubber bands before any glue is applied.

The hardware package was very complete and included fuel tank, hinges, motor mount and wheels. There is full size plans and a construction book with very good step-by-step instructions complete with pictures. This really helps those new to building and includes many construction tips.

Since this is not an ARF kit, covering material is not included and left to the builder to decide color scheme, I choose Monocote plastic film covering from the local hobby shop. There is a decal sheet, which is peel and stick. It includes black windows, Sig LT-40 logos for the tail and stripes for the fuselage

The engine (also not included in this kit) I chose was an OS .40 two stroke engine. This engine works great and very adequate, however I would choose a .46 size now that I am an experienced flyer for better aerobatic capabilities.

A model suited for both beginner and experienced flyer this kit is great for those new to the hobby and/or those who like to build, the Sig LT-40 is both easy to build and one of the best and most stable flyers. It is very stable and a great trainer but with a little more power and control surfaces set to advanced, this plane will do most aerobatic maneuvers
