The President's Corner

This year’s annual night fly was a huge success!

Normally held in August, the new moon appeared in the first week of September, so we chose the seventh as our night to light up the skies over Markham Park. I have to admit the bugs seemed to be a lot more cooperative than usual, so maybe later in the year is better.

Thanks go out to our CD Eddie Sultan and, of course, our Treasurer John Kline for organizing this event. And, also, all the pilots who came out. We had about 16 pilots registered, which is a pretty fair turnout for these events. The awards were some of the hardest decisions we had to make this year, because there was some heavy competition, but in the end Adam Hirsch once again took first place for best lit with his senior telemaster. We had a new entrant this year with Debbie Cadelli from The Copter Corner. The fifteen-year-old daughter of owner Hugo Cadelli brought her Raptor helicopter with special blades that lit up the sky to win the prize for original display.

Competition for best performing was hot and heavy as well, Bert Gonzalez, brought out his helicopter, and for a new pilot, did a great job flying in his first night fly. We also had Roosevelt bring his twin-engine Twinstar, which tore up the skies as well. But, in the end Jonathan Perdue, with his Pizazz, out flew everyone with low inverted passes and some great aerobatics to win the prize. We even made a little money in the end selling food and light sticks to the spectators. Our next night fly event will be held in the first of the year, depending on the phases of the moon.

Now we look forward to the FAI Team Trials on the first of November. This event is similar to the JR Gold Cup, only the planes are a little faster, if you can imagine that. We also will be running a 424 amateur event as well. The dates for this event are November 2nd & 3rd, with November first as a practice day and November fourth as a rain day. So the field will be closed to general flying, at least until early afternoon. We will need at least twenty people to hold this event so please volunteer your time to help out.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 25th, 7:30 PM, hope to see you there.

P.S. we have Powermaster Fuel in stock 10 and 15%, at $13.00 a can. Also I have a few Predators left and some Jett tanks, wheels and motor mounts for the Quickie Racers.
